Chinese arrogance.

A friend of mine sent me this email, which does not need any comment:

Just a warning about the Internet and China ……

Our website was shutdown by China Telecom as ordered by the Chinese government until we signed a new contract with the government stating we would not do “bad things” on the internet…I guess they mean pornography, but I really don’t know.

China Telecom said they were shutting down all websites until this new requirement was complied with, so if you have a website, you may want to check it to ensure it is operational.

When I asked China Telecom why they didn’t notify use before shutting off our service, they said, “this is China , we don’t have to notify anyone of anything”.

i do agree with you about chinese arrogrance these days, though i m of chinese descent but i do not want to be equate with mainland chinese, i m of chinese descent but born under conditions of freedom and choice. my many business trips to china have learnt that the chinese are an arrogant lot of people, especially those who thinks who have lots of money and the educated lot, the commies don’t care about what the world thinks they care only for their pockets. alot of stuff happening in China is just a farce, i work in an audit firm, i do know that 98% of the audit is what u see is not what u get. so if u were to do an audit, u have to be hard headed and get your hands dirty to do it yourself ..

You are right Jay, and there is a huge difference in attitude of people, if you go for example to Singapore, or Hong Kong (even though also there things are changing with the influx of more and more mainland Chinese who behave like they are their colonial masters, which in fact they are). I see how overseas Chinese people are treated by the mainland Chinese, and it is disgraceful.

And the irony is Chinese, in Westerners’ eyes, were believed to be humble and modest people…

I guess it’s different now, or do you think it has always been like that, with the only difference is now we are better informed about them?
